"This phone number is banned from Telegram"
Why it happens
A previous user of this specific SIM got their Telegram account banned for spam, and Telegram's ban propagates to the underlying phone number. Affects roughly 0.5% of numbers — not something we can detect upfront.
The fix

Telegram asks for a cloud (2FA) password you don't know
Why it happens
The previous user of this SIM (or an aggregator) set a 2FA cloud password on the Telegram account tied to this number. Even with the SMS code, you can't log in without that password — this is Telegram's recovery protection.
The fix
Cancel the activation for a full refund — this number is effectively unusable without the password. Grab a fresh number from a different country. Our rental pool rotates faster and rarely has leftover passwords.
Account banned within hours of verification
Why it happens
Telegram's anti-spam wave (active since late 2024) aggressively bans new accounts that join many groups/channels fast, send unsolicited DMs, or match known abuse patterns. This has nothing to do with the number type — it's about behavior.
The fix
Warm new Telegram accounts gradually. Day 1: set profile photo + bio, message 1-2 existing contacts. Week 1: join 2-3 relevant groups. Don't mass-DM, don't join 50 channels in an hour, don't promote anything in the first 72 hours. This is a Telegram rule, not a virtual-number rule.
Code arrives as a voice call instead of SMS
Why it happens
Telegram's anti-spam system sometimes routes verification via voice call to numbers it considers 'suspicious' (mostly US and India). Not a VirtualSMS issue — Telegram's call. Our SIMs receive voice in most markets, not all.
The fix
Check your VirtualSMS dashboard — if the number supports voice, the transcript appears there. If not, cancel for a full refund and try a different country, or switch to a rental (rentals receive voice in most markets).
"Enter the code from your Telegram app" — no SMS sent
Why it happens
This number was previously signed up on Telegram and there's an active session on another device. Telegram routes the login code to that existing session instead of as an SMS.
The fix
Wait 2 minutes, then tap 'Send the code via SMS' in the Telegram signup screen. The fallback code will then land in your VirtualSMS inbox. If the original session is accessible to you, approve the new login directly there.
Code arrives but Telegram says it's wrong
Why it happens
Either the code expired (valid 10 minutes), or you requested a resend and typed an earlier code — Telegram invalidates any previous code when a new one is sent.
The fix
Always use the MOST RECENT code in your VirtualSMS inbox. If you requested a resend after not seeing the first SMS, any earlier codes in your inbox are now invalid — only the newest works.
Telegram Premium won't activate on this number
Why it happens
