Short answer:
VirtualSMS provides eBay verification via real Mexico mobile numbers (+52 prefix) — physical carrier-issued SIM cards, not VoIP. Mexico numbers from regional operators pass eBay's network-detection checks where Google Voice, TextNow, and MySudo get rejected as disposable. Numbers activate in under 30 seconds. Pricing from $0.54 per activation, paid in USDT, USDC, BTC, LTC, or SOL. If the number expires without a eBay code, your balance is refunded automatically. Alternative to hero-sms, 5sim, SMSPool, SMS-Man, OnlineSim for Mexico eBay verification — with real SIMs instead of shared VoIP pools.

Which Mexico carriers we run
Mexico eBay activations come from a mix of tier-1 mobile networks and the MVNOs that diaspora communities lean on for cheap international rates. The pool rotates with stock — right now you're likely to get a SIM from Telcel, AT&T México or one of the MVNO brands that ride those same networks: Movistar México, Bait, Virgin Mobile MX. All real mobile-network SIMs, not VoIP. eBay's anti-VoIP detection (the same check that rejects Google Voice and Twilio numbers) sees these as regular Mexico mobile lines because that's what they are.
Tier 3 — Variable — try a second country if first fails

Telcel, AT&T, Movistar — acceptable; use EU number if you need a clean first-try pass
Five real reasons people verify eBay without their personal number
None of these are sketchy. They're the reasons we hear from customers every day.
01
eBay requires phone verification at signup AND at every major selling action
Signing up is just the first gate. eBay re-requests phone verification when you list your first item, when you apply to raise selling limits, when you appeal a restriction, and when you log in from a new device or country. Attaching your personal SIM to an eBay account ties your real-world identity to every verification request eBay throws at you. A virtual number handles all of those without exposing your personal line.
02
Serious sellers run separate buyer and seller accounts — each needs its own number
eBay's marketplace policy requires distinct accounts for different selling identities in certain configurations. Resellers, arbitrage buyers, and drop-shippers who operate multiple stores need multiple verified phone numbers. Each account needs a clean, unique number — reusing the same number across accounts is a recognised ban trigger on eBay.
03
eBay flags numbers from VoIP ranges and known-recycled SIMs — especially for seller accounts
eBay's trust-and-safety system checks the carrier classification of a phone number before sending any OTP. Numbers classified as VoIP, MVNO aggregator pools, or number-porting services are blocked before the code is ever sent. eBay applies this check more aggressively to seller registrations and selling-limit requests than to buyer signups — real SIMs from mainstream carriers have the best pass rate.
04
eBay marketplace region matters — eBay.com, eBay.co.uk, eBay.de each correlate phone country code
eBay operates distinct regional marketplaces and its fraud system correlates the phone number's country code against your registered region and IP. A UK number on eBay.co.uk, a German number on eBay.de — these match and flow through cleanly. Mismatches increase the probability of eBay routing you to a full identity-verification step before you can transact.
eBay's OTP and account-recovery flows require inbound SMS. Modern eSIMs and data-only plans have no SMS capability. A real-SIM virtual number from VirtualSMS solves this in under a minute — no second physical phone required.
eBay-specific problems and how to fix them
eBay has distinct failure modes compared to social platforms. Each problem below has a specific cause — don't just retry blindly.
"This phone number is already associated with an eBay account"
Why it happens
eBay permanently links a phone number to any account it was ever verified on — including suspended or closed accounts from previous SIM holders. Even if you've never used this number on eBay, a prior owner may have. eBay does not release that binding when an account closes.
The fix
Cancel the current number on VirtualSMS for a full refund. Get a fresh number from a different country. UK, German, and French numbers have the lowest prior-association rate in our fleet. Don't retry the same number — the binding is permanent on eBay's side.
OTP never arrives within 2 minutes
Why it happens
Either the specific SIM range is temporarily rate-limited by eBay's SMS gateway, or there's carrier congestion on the route from eBay's provider to that number. Not related to your account.
The fix
Cancel for a full refund. Try a different country — UK, Germany, and France currently have the best eBay OTP delivery speed in our fleet. Don't hit 'Resend code' more than once; each resend resets eBay's wait timer and can extend the lockout.
eBay asks for ID documents instead of sending an OTP
Why it happens
eBay escalated your account to a full KYC check — triggered by IP reputation (VPN, proxy, datacenter IP), adding a payment method immediately after signup, or listing high-value items before establishing a buyer history. This is an account-level risk check, not a number-type check.
The fix
This is unrelated to the phone number. Complete the identity verification if you're willing, or restart with a clean residential IP (not a datacenter or VPN exit node), build a few days of browsing history on the account, and add payment details more gradually.
eBay re-requests phone verification when I try to sell or raise my selling limits
Why it happens
eBay verifies phone numbers independently for buyer accounts and seller accounts. Even if you verified at signup as a buyer, switching to seller mode or requesting a selling-limit increase triggers a fresh verification round. Single-use activation numbers are released after the first OTP and can't receive this second round.
The fix
This is the most common reason to rent rather than activate-once for eBay seller accounts. If you're already in this situation with a used activation number: rent a number from VirtualSMS for the selling-limit request. Treat the rental as your long-term seller account number — eBay will continue to send verification codes to it for ongoing seller-account actions.
OTP arrives but eBay says it's wrong or expired
Why it happens
eBay's OTPs expire in 10 minutes, and each 'Resend code' request invalidates all earlier codes. If you requested multiple OTPs, only the last one is valid.
The fix
Always use the MOST RECENT code in your VirtualSMS inbox. If you see multiple eBay codes, ignore all but the latest. If the latest also fails, cancel for a refund — the session may have timed out — and restart the eBay flow from scratch.
eBay account suspended or put on hold immediately after verification
Why it happens
eBay's post-signup fraud detection flagged the new account — common triggers: adding a high-value payment method immediately, listing items within minutes of signup, or the device/IP pairing matching known fraud patterns. The phone number type is not the cause once the OTP has been accepted.
The fix
Follow eBay's appeal flow — go to 'My eBay' → 'Account' → 'Resolve issue'. Re-verification via the registered number is part of that flow (another reason to use a rental for seller accounts). Wait 24–48 hours before attempting high-value activity after appeal.
eBay region mismatch — asked for additional verification when signing up on a non-US storefront
Why it happens
eBay's fraud system correlates phone country code, IP, and shipping region. If these don't align — e.g. a US number + German IP + eBay.de signup — eBay routes you to extra identity verification before allowing account setup.
The fix
Match the number country to the storefront: UK number for eBay.co.uk, German number for eBay.de, Australian number for eBay.com.au. See the country tiers above. US numbers are the most scrutinised on non-US storefronts specifically.

Frequently asked questions about eBay virtual numbers
Does eBay detect and block virtual numbers?
eBay actively blocks VoIP numbers (Google Voice, TextNow, Twilio) and recycled number ranges that have been used for mass account registrations. It does NOT systematically block real carrier-issued SIM numbers, which is what VirtualSMS provides. The check is carrier-range and number-history based — a fresh real SIM from a clean carrier range passes eBay's check. Shared virtual numbers (free inboxes, VoIP services) fail because they're in eBay's known-bad-range database, not simply because they're 'virtual'.
Does eBay phone verification work differently for sellers than buyers?
Yes — and this is the most important thing to understand before buying. eBay runs phone verification at signup (buyer), again when you register as a seller, again when you request a selling-limit increase, and again during account restriction appeals. Each of these can be a separate verification round. A single-use activation number covers the first round only. For any eBay seller account, rent the number so it stays with you across all verification touchpoints.
Can I use the same virtual number for multiple eBay accounts?
No. eBay permanently binds one account to each phone number, including suspended or closed accounts from any previous owner. If a number has ever been associated with any eBay account under any ownership, eBay will not allow it to verify a new one. This is why we source fresh SIM batches specifically — pre-associated numbers fail at the OTP-send step, before you see any code.
Does my eBay number country have to match the eBay marketplace I'm using?
It doesn't have to match, but a mismatch increases the probability of eBay routing you to additional identity verification. eBay correlates phone country code, IP region, and registered marketplace as part of its fraud detection. For seller accounts especially, use a number from the same country as your primary marketplace — UK number for eBay.co.uk, German for eBay.de. See the country tiers above for best picks per marketplace.
Will I need the number again after eBay is verified?
Possibly — and this is the most important question to answer before buying. eBay re-requests phone verification on suspicious logins, device switches, payment flags, seller registration, and selling-limit appeals. If you used a pay-per-activation number (single-use), those future requests will fail because the number has been released. For any eBay account you plan to sell on or use long-term, rent the number instead.
What eBay account actions trigger a phone verification re-request?
Known triggers from eBay's security system: logging in from a new device or country, registering as a seller after creating a buyer account, requesting a selling-limit increase, appealing a selling restriction, adding or changing a payment method, and periodic account security checks. Renting a number rather than activating once protects against all of these.
What phone number format does eBay want?
eBay accepts E.164 format: country code + number without spaces or dashes (e.g. +447911123456 for a UK number). Your VirtualSMS dashboard shows the number in the exact format eBay expects — copy it as-is.
Is using a virtual number for eBay legal?
In most jurisdictions, yes. eBay's user agreement requires that accounts represent real individuals and not be used for fraudulent activity. Using a virtual number to register or verify a legitimate personal or seller account is not prohibited. Check local regulations if you're in a jurisdiction with strict digital-identity or e-commerce rules.
Which country is cheapest for an eBay number?
Poland and Czech Republic are consistently our most cost-effective options that still land in reliable success tiers for eBay. UK and Germany are slightly more expensive but have the best clean-range score on eBay's detection system, making them the safest first picks — especially for seller accounts. Check the live pricing section above for current per-country rates.
How do I pay for the number?
Crypto (BTC, USDT, ETH, LTC and more). Minimum top-up $2.50. Unused balance stays in your account indefinitely — no expiry, no subscription, no monthly fees. You only pay when a verification succeeds — the charge is deducted when the SMS is delivered.
